Kohima, August 1: The Angami Students’ Union (ASU) has urged the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) and executing agencies to immediately strengthen safety measures on landslide-prone roads in Angami areas as the monsoon season continues.
In a press release, the Union said recurring landslides, mudslides and rockfalls on key road corridors pose a serious threat to commuters, disrupt academic activities and affect the livelihoods of the public. It noted that these roads are vital for daily travel, commerce and the movement of thousands of students.
While acknowledging ongoing infrastructure development, the ASU stressed that public safety must remain the top priority and said relying solely on post-disaster road clearance is no longer sufficient.
The Union called for proactive measures such as slope stabilization, installation of protective nets, continuous monitoring of vulnerable stretches and round-the-clock emergency preparedness to ensure safe and uninterrupted travel during the monsoon.
