Kohima, July 31: An alternative route from Phesama Junction via St. Paul Institute to Kisama Gate has been opened with immediate effect for small and medium-sized vehicles as restoration work continues on the affected stretch of National Highway-29 (NH-29).
According to the authorities, the alternative route will remain operational until further notice. Heavy vehicles, however, will continue to use the affected NH-29 stretch while debris clearance operations are underway. Once the accumulated debris is removed and the road is declared safe, heavy vehicles will also be allowed to pass through the highway.
Authorities said traffic movement, including that of school buses, will be regulated to ensure smooth vehicular flow during the restoration period. Students travelling by bus may experience brief delays as traffic is managed at the affected site.
To prevent heavy vehicles from using the alternative route, signboards and placards will be installed, while Traffic Police personnel and district administration officials have been deployed to regulate traffic and assist commuters.
Meanwhile, the affected stretch of NH-29 will remain closed from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday to facilitate uninterrupted debris removal and road restoration work.
The National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) is also installing fog lights at the site to enable round-the-clock restoration work. Authorities stated that every effort is being made to restore normal traffic movement at the earliest while ensuring the safety of commuters.
