Kohima, Nov 3: The Southern Angami Youth Organisation (SAYO) on Tuesday inspected the landslide-affected area at Phesama at around 7:30 AM to assess the progress of ongoing restoration works and review the ground situation. Following the inspection, SAYO leaders addressed the media and shared updates on the progress of the restoration work and the proposed reopening of the road.
Speaking to the media, Southern Angami Youth Organisation president Zasitsolie Beio informed that five youth organisations from the Southern area participated in the inspection. He announced that the road would be opened from November 9, 2026, particularly to facilitate the movement of students and light vehicles.
According to him, light vehicles will be permitted to ply through the affected stretch during two designated time slots: 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM and 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM.
Beio further stated that restoration work has been continuing non-stop, expressing hope that the work would be completed at the earliest.
Meanwhile, Ketouneio Zashumo, President of the Phesama Youth Organisation (PYO), highlighted the difficulties faced by the public, particularly students and commuters, due to the closure of the main road and reliance on the alternative route.
He said that youths have been facing numerous hardships and appealed to the concerned authorities to expedite the restoration work and complete it at the earliest to ease the difficulties faced by the people.
The proposed reopening of the road is expected to provide some relief to commuters, especially students, while restoration work continues at the landslide-affected site.
