Noklak, Aug 3: The District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Noklak, chaired by Deputy Commissioner and DDMA Chairman P. Mono Khiamniungan, convened an emergency meeting on July 22 to review the district’s flood and disaster situation and coordinate restoration efforts.
During the meeting, the house discussed the damage to the Noklak–Chendang Saddle Road, Noklak–Pangsha Road, and Lein Bridge, and directed the concerned departments to undertake immediate restoration works. The meeting also reviewed the shortage of essential medicines and resolved to arrange transportation of medical supplies from Kohima. In addition, officials assessed the availability of essential commodities and relief materials, while deciding to seek assistance from the Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) to strengthen relief operations.
As part of the ongoing restoration efforts, the Deputy Commissioner, accompanied by officials from various departments, later inspected the damaged Lein Bridge to assess the extent of the damage and monitor the progress of restoration works.
According to officials, the DDMA had carried out landslide clearance on the Tsuwao–Noklak road on July 4. The authority also extended financial assistance of ₹40,000 for the restoration of the foot overbridge over the Leaniu River along the Noklak–Lengnyu route.
Officials further informed that the PWD (R&B) conducted a three-day maintenance drive on the affected roads beginning June 22, followed by clearance work on the Noklak–Pangsha road on June 24. Another round of road clearance was carried out by the DDMA on July 30, while PWD (R&B) continued restoration and clearance operations during the latest inspection.
The district administration stated that restoration of damaged roads and bridges remains a priority to ensure safe connectivity, facilitate the movement of essential supplies, and strengthen disaster response across the district.
