DIMAPUR, July 15: Director General of the Assam Rifles (DGAR), Lieutenant General Vikas Lakhera, has appealed to the people of Nagaland to safeguard the state’s hard-earned peace following the recent suspected IED blast in Chümoukedima that claimed the life of an Assam Rifles personnel.
Speaking to the media during the funeral service of the deceased on Tuesday, Lt. Gen. Lakhera described the attack as “an act against humanity” and stressed the importance of ensuring that such incidents do not disrupt the peace that the state has achieved over the years.
“The Army is there to do what needs to be done. But I urge the people not to lose this hard-earned peace. This peace is the security of our future and of our children,” he said.
The DGAR informed that the deceased soldier hailed from Jammu and Kashmir and that his mortal remains would be flown to his native state for the last rites. He also provided an update on the injured personnel, stating that they are in stable condition and recovering well.
Lt. Gen. Lakhera concluded by urging everyone to pray that the recent incident does not disturb the peace and stability in Nagaland, reiterating the collective responsibility to preserve harmony in the state. The appeal comes in the wake of the July 13 suspected IED blast at Chümoukedima, in which one Assam Rifles personnel lost his life and several others sustained injuries.
