October 27: The Neokpao led Working Committee of the Naga National Political Groups (W/C NNPG) has cautioned the NSCN/FRGN over its October 23 statement, demanding that the group immediately withdraw its directive, tender an unconditional apology and disband within two weeks.
In a press release, the W/C NNPG stated that it had taken serious exception to the statement issued by the NSCN/FRGN, following deliberations on the matter. The committee expressed concern that what it described as an “immature and shortsighted” statement containing threats and intimidation could create communal unrest and cause unnecessary fear and trauma among Naga communities living across India, including Naga students studying outside the state.
The W/C NNPG called on the FRGN to immediately rescind its statement and tender an unqualified apology to the Naga people, as well as to non-Naga communities and entrepreneurs residing peacefully in Nagaland. The committee further accused the group of attempting to misuse the Naga political issue for self aggrandisement through what it described as tactics of terror and harassment.
It stated that such activities would not be tolerated in Naga-inhabited areas and called for those responsible to be investigated and punished in accordance with the law.The committee further directed the FRGN to disband within two weeks, warning of dire consequences if it failed to comply.Meanwhile, the W/C, NNPG appealed to the communities targeted by the directive to maintain calm and promptly report any concerns to its office for appropriate action.
