Dimapur, September 2: Nagaland News Network (NNN) conducted a ground report along the Hokishe Sumi Road stretch from the Sub-Urban Police Station to the Army Supply Road, highlighting serious concerns over large potholes, poor drainage and deteriorating road conditions.
Residents, shopkeepers, students and rickshaw drivers expressed grievances over the months-long condition of the road. During the rainy season, the potholes become filled with water, making it difficult and dangerous for vehicles and pedestrians to commute. Locals said vehicles often get stuck or damaged, while accidents and traffic congestion have also occurred.
A rickshaw driver, recalling his own experience, said his rickshaw was once hit from behind by a car while travelling through the stretch. He described the road as scary and dangerous for rickshaw drivers and other commuters.
NNN also observed drivers moving into the wrong lane to avoid the potholes, raising serious road-safety concerns and increasing the risk of collisions.
Although some potholes have recently been filled by the Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC), the public said the measure is only temporary and that the potholes tend to reappear after rainfall. The public has appealed to the concerned authorities for proper road repairs and improvement of the drainage system, seeking a permanent solution to ensure safer commuting in the area.
