Kohima, August 10: The Nagaland Cabinet, led by Chief Minister Dr. Neiphiu Rio, held a meeting at Doyang in Wokha, discussing key issues including oil exploration, the Foothill Road, the Frontier Nagaland Territorial Authority (FNTA), and the impact of heavy rainfall and landslides across the state.
Minister for Higher Education and Tourism Temjen Imna Along said the government remains committed to protecting the interests and rights of landowners in areas identified for oil exploration, while asserting Nagaland’s position in matters involving Assam and the Centre.
The Cabinet also reviewed developments concerning the Foothill Road, including proposed road specifications, with Along describing the project as a potential lifeline for Nagaland’s economic growth.On the FNTA, Along said the matter is expected to be deliberated during the upcoming Assam Assembly session, while noting that the complete agenda is yet to be published.
Addressing the ongoing flood and landslide situation, the Minister said the government’s immediate priority is assisting affected communities in areas including Mon and Tuli. He stressed the need to establish facts regarding the causes of flooding and said the government would work on strengthening preparedness and reducing the impact of future natural disasters.He also said efforts are underway to restore normalcy in schools and educational institutions affected by the adverse weather conditions.
