Kohima | August 8, 2026: The Yimkhiung Union Kohima (YUK) celebrated the Metümnyo Festival at RCEMPA Hall, Jotsoma, with Deputy Chief Minister T.R. Zeliang as the Special Guest and Advisor Kuzholuzo Nienu as the Guest of Honour.
Traditionally observed from August 4 to 8 following the millet harvest, Metümnyo is a significant Yimkhiung festival centred on thanksgiving, reconciliation, remembrance and strengthening community bonds.
Addressing the gathering, APO President Thejao Vihienuo described the festival as a “living heritage” preserved through generations, while highlighting the Yimkhiung community’s contributions to Naga society.
Advisor Kuzholuzo Nienu called for introspection among Nagas, urging people to move away from materialism, selfishness, nepotism and division, and to uphold stronger moral and social values.
Deputy Chief Minister T.R. Zeliang emphasised that festivals are expressions of identity and heritage, calling for greater unity among Nagas while respecting tribal diversity. He also welcomed stronger bonds between the Yimkhiung and Zeliang communities.
The celebration concluded with calls for preserving cultural heritage, promoting reconciliation and strengthening unity and solidarity among the Naga people.
