Kohima, August 8: Heavy rains across Nagaland have triggered landslides and caused damage to several stretches of National Highways, affecting road connectivity in different parts of the state. With the monsoon continuing to pose challenges to road infrastructure, the State Government has reiterated that restoration of affected highway stretches and ensuring uninterrupted connectivity remain a priority.
Deputy Chief Minister Y. Patton, who also holds the National Highways portfolio, said efforts are being focused on restoring damaged roads and addressing areas that remain vulnerable to landslides. Alongside immediate restoration works, the government is also looking at long-term solutions to reduce the recurring impact of monsoon-related damage.
The proposed measures include improving drainage systems, strengthening vulnerable slopes and upgrading road infrastructure in landslide-prone areas. The government has stressed the need for more durable and preventive measures to ensure safer and more reliable highway connectivity during the monsoon season.
