Dimapur, July 30: Late Arthur Edwards was remembered as a visionary educator, devoted family man, entrepreneur and compassionate leader during a series of heartfelt tributes at his funeral service in Dimapur.
Condolence messages from the Diocese of Kohima, family members, village leaders, former students and close associates highlighted his lifelong commitment to serving God and society through education, business and philanthropy.
Bishop James Thoppil described Arthur Edwards as a distinguished Catholic leader whose unwavering faith, humility and generosity touched countless lives across Nagaland.
Representatives from Tahekhu Village recalled how Arthur Edwards became a father figure to the community after settling there in the 1980s. They credited him with founding Livingstone Foundation School in 1988, an institution that has educated generations of students and transformed many lives.
Head GB of Kevijau Colony remembered him as a man of integrity whose words and actions earned universal respect, while family members and relatives described him as a disciplined yet loving father, mentor and teacher who guided many young people towards successful careers and entrepreneurship.
Alumni representative Dr. Rhondemo Kikon said Arthur Edwards inspired students beyond academics, remaining in touch with them even after they left school and encouraging them throughout their lives. Jennifer Edwards, speaking on behalf of the Edwards family from Darjeeling, reflected on his journey from Darjeeling to Nagaland, where he and his wife built Breeze Restaurant and Bakery before fulfilling his dream of establishing a school dedicated to serving society.
Grandson Anoka remembered his grandfather for teaching the family to love one another, help those in need and lead lives of kindness and compassion.
In an emotional address, his son Dr. Andrew Ahoto recounted Arthur Edwards’ humble beginnings in Nagaland, his pioneering role in introducing popular dishes such as Chicken Chilli and Fried Rice through Breeze Restaurant, and his unwavering dedication to education through Livingstone Foundation. He said Arthur’s greatest legacy was not his achievements but the values of hard work, integrity, selfless service and love that he instilled in generations. Dr. Ahoto also revealed that he would complete and publish his father’s unfinished autobiography to preserve his remarkable journey for future generations.
Speakers unanimously agreed that while Arthur Edwards’ passing leaves an irreplaceable void, his legacy of faith, service, education and compassion will continue to inspire generations to come.
