GOVERNMENT OF INDIA HANDS OVER INVESTIGATION OF KHOPANALA EXPLOSION CASE TO NIA

Kohima, July 28: The Government of India has handed over the investigation into the Khopanala explosion case to the National Investigation Agency (NIA). The decision follows a communication from the Ministry of Home Affairs dated July 27.

The explosion occurred at Khopanala, Chümoukedima Village, on July 13, 2026, and was initially registered at Chümoukedima Police Station. The Centre directed the NIA to take over the case under the provisions of the NIA Act, 2008, citing the gravity of the offence and its implications for national security.

The Nagaland Government and Nagaland Police will coordinate with the NIA to complete the handover process in accordance with the law.
