Dimapur, July 23: The Muslim Council Dimapur (MCD) has expelled and ex-communicated two individuals accused of practising black magic, saying the move was taken to protect the community and eradicate social evils.
In an information circular issued on July 18, the Council said the two individuals were found to be involved in black magic and that materials related to the alleged practice found in their possession had been destroyed. The Council also appealed to the public not to cooperate with them and urged landlords not to rent houses to them if they return to Nagaland. It further called on citizens to report anyone allegedly involved in black magic or similar unlawful activities.
Speaking to Nagaland News Network, the Council said the issue has been under discussion within the community since 2012, when several resolutions were adopted to take action against those found practising black magic. It said the last such action was taken in 2017, after which no major cases surfaced until recently.
According to the Council, fresh information led to the identification of the two individuals, marking the first phase of renewed action. It claimed the case came to light after an alleged abduction of a girl. The Council said that when the girl was found, she was behaving abnormally, and during questioning, the accused allegedly admitted to practising black magic. It further claimed that related materials were also found on their mobile phones.
The Council said these findings led to the expulsion of the two individuals and reiterated its commitment to eliminating such practices from society.
