Dimapur, July 23: Rail services passing through Dimapur Railway Station were severely disrupted on Tuesday due to flooding in Upper Assam, particularly after heavy waterlogging at Silghat (SLGR) Yard caused by the rising Dechow River.
According to Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), the flooding on the SLGR–NMT and SLGR–SLX sections led to the cancellation, diversion, and partial cancellation of several train services. A total of 18 trains were fully cancelled, 12 trains were partially cancelled, and 18 trains were diverted via alternate routes. Major affected services included the Nagaland Express, Rajdhani Express, Vivek Express, Kamrup Express, along with several intercity, passenger, and DEMU trains.
The disruption left many passengers stranded at Dimapur Railway Station. Several passengers shared their ordeal, with one traveler stating that the railway app had shown the train as cancelled, but upon reaching the station, they found the train already present, causing confusion.
To assist stranded passengers, Northeast Frontier Railway introduced relief special trains. Railway authorities stated that train operations would remain affected until floodwaters receded and normal services could be restored.
