Kohima, July 10: The Kohima District Football Association (KDFA) on Wednesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the family of late Atuo Mezhür Sekhose to officially launch the Atuo Mezhür Sekhose Super League, a premier district football competition dedicated to preserving the legacy of one of Nagaland’s most respected football administrators.
The MoU was signed at 2K Hotel, Kohima, with KDFA stating that the league aims to raise the standard of football through professionalism, transparency and youth development. The inaugural edition will feature eight teams in a single round-robin format, with the top four advancing to the Champions Cup. Each team must field at least two Under-20 players in its starting XI, while clubs can register up to three guest players, with only two allowed on the field at a time.
In tribute to Sekhose, 20% of match-day ticket revenue will go towards the Atuo Mezhür Sekhose Trust Fund. KDFA has also reserved two slots for clubs from Tseminyu district to promote regional football development and strengthen ties between the two districts.
Speaking at the event, KDFA officials and members of the Sekhose family described the league as a long-term commitment to honour Sekhose’s legacy while creating greater opportunities for young footballers. OSD, Youth Resources and Sports, Roko Angami, also paid tribute to the late football administrator’s lasting contribution to the growth of football in Nagaland.
