DIMAPUR, JULY 9: Advisor for Tribal Affairs and MLA of Dimapur-I, Tovihoto Ayemi, on Friday inspected the ongoing construction site of the proposed world-class railway station in Dimapur, particularly the stretch between Netaji Colony and Railway Colony, to assess concerns raised by residents over road accessibility and public convenience.
The inspection was attended by Deputy Commissioner of Dimapur, Tinojongshi Chang, officials from the Railways, engineers, and representatives of the affected local colonies. During the visit, discussions focused on the need to provide alternative road connectivity for residents, as several existing access roads have been blocked due to the ongoing construction. According to local representatives, nearly 7,000 residents from five to six colonies are likely to be affected by the closure of these roads, impacting their daily movement and access to the main road.
Concerns were also raised over the movement of emergency services, including fire tenders and ambulances, as road widths in certain stretches have been significantly reduced because of the construction activities. Addressing the issue, Tovihoto said that while the development of a world-class railway station is a welcome initiative and an important step towards improving infrastructure, it should not come at the expense of public convenience. He stressed that adequate alternative routes must be ensured so that residents do not face unnecessary hardship during the construction period.
He further noted that the project has already commenced and has been widely welcomed by the public. However, he emphasized that the work should be completed within the stipulated timeframe to minimise inconvenience and ensure that the benefits of the project are realised without prolonged disruption to the local community.
