KATHO P AWOMI ACTED ON HIS OWN ACCORD AND NOT DIRECTIVE OF NSF, SAYS DUCCF PRESIDENT

DIMAPUR, July 3: Dimapur MLA and Advisor for Tribal Affairs and Elections, Tovihoto Ayemi, has urged civil society organisations (CSOs) and unions to function within their respective jurisdictions following the alleged vandalism at Prysm Lounge involving NSF Finance Secretary Katho P. Awomi.

Speaking to the media on the side lines of the inauguration of a bridge connecting East Block and Naga Colony on Friday, he was asked about the growing concern over moral policing by certain organisations in Dimapur, particularly in light of the June 30 incident at Prysm Lounge near Nagaland Gate. He stated that while every CSO and union has a role and responsibility in society, they should not overstep their jurisdiction.

The incident occurred on the night of June 30 at Prysm Lounge on Golaghat Road, where Katho P. Awomi allegedly vandalised the establishment and verbally abused the proprietor. An FIR was lodged at East Police Station on July 1, and the case was formally registered on July 2. There has been no official confirmation from the police regarding his arrest.

Meanwhile, Dimapur Urban Council Chairmen’s Federation (DUCCF) President Zasivikho Zakiesato also condemned the incident. Zasivikho, who is the convener of Ward 2 where the establishment is located, said that based on the information available to him, the alleged vandalism was carried out by Awomi in his personal capacity and not under the directive of the Naga Students’ Federation (NSF).

His remarks come amid public speculation over whether the NSF had authorised the actions that led to the incident. However, he clarified that the organisation had not directed the alleged acts of vandalism at Prysm Lounge.
