NOKLAK, SEPTEMBER 7: The Khiamniungan Students’ Union (KSU) has expressed concern over the closure of certain road development projects in Noklak district, particularly the Chendang Saddle–Noklak–Pangsha Road (Phase-II) covering approximately 31 km and the Thonoknyu via Sangla Road spanning about 59 km.
In a press release, the Union questioned the reasons behind the prolonged delay, suspension and closure of the projects, stating that explanations such as difficult terrain, monsoon conditions and landslides cannot be used as a blanket justification without clear documentary evidence.The KSU also sought details regarding land compensation claims, contractors or agencies entrusted with the works, utilisation of sanctioned funds and the circumstances that led to the closure and refund of funds.
It specifically called for transparency regarding the reported refund of ₹1,570.97 lakh connected to the Chendang Saddle–Noklak–Pangsha Road project, which remains incomplete even after more than 14 years.Stating that the people of Noklak have consistently supported development projects, the Union maintained that public cooperation has never been an obstacle.
The KSU further said it remains ready for an open, transparent and fact-based discussion with the concerned government departments, executing agencies, contractors, public representatives and other stakeholders.
The Union called for accountability, transparency and development that is reflected on the ground, urging the authorities to let facts, official records and ground realities speak for themselves.
