Chumoukedima, September 5: Today, three community ambulances under the Members of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS) was flagged off. The Distribution of Community Ambulance Programme under MPLADS (Lok Sabha) was held at Neo Motors, 5th Mile, Model Village, Diphupar, Chümoukedima, with Y. Kikheto Sema, IAS, Principal Secretary and Development Commissioner, Government of Nagaland, as the special guest.
The initiative, taken up after Jamir was elected to the Lok Sabha in 2024, is aimed at strengthening emergency medical transportation and making healthcare assistance more accessible to communities, particularly the poor and needy.Speaking at the programme, Y. Kikheto Sema congratulated the Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Organisation (ENPO) on the passage of the Frontier Nagaland Territorial Authority (FNTA) Bill in the Nagaland Legislative Assembly on Friday. He said the larger motive should be to bring people together rather than create divisions.He emphasised the importance of unity among the Naga people, saying that Nagas should think in terms of “we” and not “I”, stressing that the people are one.Sema also spoke about the need to preserve the environment for future generations, urging people to be mindful of the responsibility of protecting natural resources and surroundings.Recalling the COVID-19 pandemic, he said Nagaland has made considerable progress over the past five to six years when compared to the situation during that period. He noted the improvements made in the State and encouraged people to appreciate the progress while continuing to work for a better future.Reflecting on life and mortality, Sema said that death is certain and therefore people should strive to live kindly and happily, highlighting the importance of compassion, unity and service to others.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, the Ao Senso Telongjem Dimapur expressed heartfelt gratitude for the “generous and noble” initiative, describing the ambulance as a lifeline and an assurance during emergencies.
The Pochury Hoho said that communities need support from the government as well as the more advanced tribes for development. It assured that the ambulance would be used to serve the poor and needy and that the organisation would not seek any personal benefit from it, stressing that the vehicle was meant purely for service and the community. The Hoho also expressed gratitude and sought continued support in the days to come.
Meanwhile, the General Secretary of the ENPO said that the ambulance was “not just an ambulance but a ray of hope to save lives.” He extended heartfelt gratitude to MP S. Supongmeren Jamir for the ambulance and described him as a friend of the people of Eastern Nagaland who has consistently stood with and supported the ENPO.The ENPO also expressed its gratitude to Jamir for his support to the ENPO movement, while seeking his continued cooperation and support in the future.All the beneficiary organisations extended their thanks to both the special guest and MP S. Supongmeren Jamir, acknowledging the initiative as an important contribution towards emergency healthcare and community welfare.
