KOHIMA, AUGUST 24: The proposed introduction of Sanskrit in Nagaland schools has sparked discussion over curriculum requirements and teacher availability.
Advisor to the Nagaland Government and MLA Dr. Kekhrielhoulie Yhome clarified that NBSE-affiliated schools follow the state’s language policy, where the mother tongue is compulsory. Schools affiliated with CBSE and ICSE, meanwhile, are required to follow their respective board guidelines.
Yhome said NBSE schools may not necessarily require Sanskrit teachers, while CBSE and ICSE schools may need to recruit teachers if Sanskrit is part of their curriculum.
He also highlighted the shortage of teachers, particularly in mathematics and science, saying the government is considering emergency recruitment to fill vacancies.
On teacher attendance, Yhome said the department is strengthening monitoring and working with the IT Department on a digital system to track attendance and leave records.
