Dimapur, August 24: A pig carcass was found openly disposed of in the NIU Colony area on August 21, raising renewed concerns over repeated improper disposal of dead pigs in the locality.
Speaking to Nagaland News Network, Hozka K. Awomi, GB of NIU Colony, said a pig farm and wholesale area in the vicinity allegedly dispose of dead pigs into the Lingri River, along the Assam-Nagaland border. He said the Joint Council and DUCCF had earlier cleaned the area and issued warnings over the practice.
Awomi said that during the heavy floods from August 8 to 11, three dead pigs were seen being carried away by the floodwaters. Residents later complained of a foul smell and, upon searching the area, discovered another pig carcass that had been disposed of there.
He said the issue is affecting not only NIU Colony but also neighbouring areas, and urged the government to look into the matter and take necessary action.
