Senapati, August 21: The United Naga Council (UNC) has called on the Government to immediately stop what it termed “military aggression” in Namdilong and other Naga areas, and instead focus on resolving its charter of demands through dialogue.
Briefing the media at Senapati, UNC Working Committee Member Secretary AC Thotso condemned the August 20 incident at Namdilong near Kanglatongbi, alleging excessive use of force by security personnel that injured several civilians, including women. He also said several protesters were arrested and four sustained serious injuries.
Thotso alleged that the State Government has failed to protect Naga civilians and demanded that the investigation into the deaths of six Naga men be expedited and justice delivered to the victims’ families. The UNC also rejected reports that protesters intended to march towards Motbung, calling the claim misleading and insisting that the protest was peaceful.
It reaffirmed that it would continue to stand against what it described as injustice and atrocities against the Naga people. The UNC appealed to the Naga people to remain united and support the injured victims until justice is delivered.
