Dimapur, August 18: An elderly woman was seriously injured after allegedly being knocked down by a red Maruti 800 while crossing National Highway-29 between Airport Junction and 4th Mile on Tuesday.
According to eyewitnesses and videos received by this channel, the woman suffered a head injury and was found unconscious and bleeding. The driver allegedly fled the scene, leaving the vehicle behind, while witnesses claimed he appeared to be under the influence of alcohol. This has not been independently verified.
Questions have also been raised over the alleged response of police personnel at the scene, with witnesses claiming that appeals for assistance to apprehend the fleeing driver were not acted upon. The injured woman was eventually taken to hospital by members of the public.The red Maruti 800 remained at the site, and further investigation is underway. The woman’s condition and the identity of the driver were not immediately known.
