Dimalur, August 8: Every monsoon season, several parts of Dimapur face recurring flooding, affecting families, disrupting daily life and leaving colonies vulnerable to waterlogging.
Speaking off camera, a resident of the flood-affected SM Colony said flooding has become an almost annual occurrence in the area. According to the resident, clogged drains due to waste dumping, along with constructions built over or around drainage channels, are among the factors contributing to the problem.
The resident also recalled that during last year’s flooding, the colony GB extended assistance to affected families, while the Deputy Commissioner also personally visited the area to assess the situation.
Following last night’s heavy rainfall, several parts of Dimapur once again witnessed flooding and waterlogging, highlighting concerns over the city’s drainage infrastructure and public civic responsibility.
While flooding is a natural hazard that cannot always be prevented, its impact can be reduced through coordinated efforts. Residents say proper and well-maintained drainage systems, prevention of waste dumping into drains, responsible construction practices, timely intervention by concerned authorities and an effective emergency response system are essential to minimise damage during the monsoon.
