DIMAPUR, July 13: A suspected explosion was reported around 2:00 pm on the Chümoukedima–Shukhovi stretch on Sunday, leaving five Assam Rifles personnel reportedly seriously injured.
According to preliminary information, an auto-rickshaw was blown apart in the incident, while the injured Assam Rifles personnel, who were travelling in a pickup vehicle, were immediately shifted to the Christian Institute of Health Sciences and Research (CIHSR) for medical treatment.The exact cause of the explosion remains unconfirmed.
Authorities have not yet ascertained whether it was caused by an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) or another type of explosion. It is also unclear at this stage whether the explosive device was in the auto-rickshaw or the pickup vehicle.
Security forces and investigating agencies have reached the spot and are carrying out investigations to determine the cause of the blast and the sequence of events.Further details are awaited as the investigation progresses.
