



Kohima: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Nagaland on Monday(6th July) observed the 125th birth anniversary of Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee at its State Head Office in Kohima, with party leaders and workers paying tribute to the founder of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh and remembering his contributions to nation-building, education, and public service.
The programme was chaired by BJP State Mahila Morcha Vice President Kashini Kiba. The invocation was offered by Francis P. Kiewhuo, Catechist of St. Francis de Sales Church, Kohima Town, while the welcome address was delivered by BJP Nagaland State Secretary Therali Ezung. Thomas Magh, Convenor of the 125th Birth Anniversary Committee and State President of BJP ST Morcha, presented a brief history of Dr. Mookerjee, while BJP State Spokesperson Adv. Chitho Nyusou highlighted his social and political contributions. A special folk fusion performance was presented by Vikuyole Tase, Treasurer of BJP State ST Morcha.
Deputy Chief Minister and BJP Legislature Party Leader Yanthungo Patton, the special guest, described Dr. Mookerjee as a visionary leader whose life embodied service, courage, integrity, and dedication to the nation. He said Dr. Mookerjee believed education, discipline, and character were the foundations of national progress and praised his contributions as one of the youngest Vice-Chancellors of Calcutta University and as independent India’s first Minister for Industry and Supply.
Patton said Dr. Mookerjee’s ideals of democracy, good governance, national unity, and public service continue to guide the BJP. He urged the youth to draw inspiration from Dr. Mookerjee’s life by valuing education, serving society with integrity, respecting democratic institutions, and contributing to the nation’s development.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by BJP Kohima District President Khrielie Üsou, followed by the National Anthem and a group photo session.
