Mokokchung, July 21: A major political development has emerged within the District Congress Committee (DCC) Mokokchung after more than 60 party members tendered their mass resignation on Tuesday, citing dissatisfaction with the leadership of the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC).

The resignations include members from the DCC, Mahila Congress, Youth Congress and other party wings.

Speaking to Nagaland News Network over the phone, former DCC Mokokchung Secretary Prakash Aley said the resignations were prompted by repeated violations of the party’s constitution and alleged interference by the state leadership in district affairs.

According to Aley, the Congress constitution mandates that district presidents and office bearers should be elected by the district. However, he alleged that appointments were instead made by the All India Congress Committee (AICC) and the NPCC.

He claimed that the constitutionally elected DCC President Watimongba Aier, whose tenure is valid until 2027, was effectively replaced when Imkong Yanger was appointed as district president on March 30, 2026. Subsequently, on July 4, 2026, I. Temsu Jamir was appointed as another DCC president without revoking the earlier appointment, creating confusion with three individuals holding claims to the post.

Aley further alleged that the NPCC also appointed district office bearers without consulting the district committee, leading to internal divisions, confusion and dissatisfaction. He said repeated objections raised by the district leadership went unaddressed, leaving members feeling sidelined and victimized.

Responding to the development, Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee President and Member of Parliament S. Supongmeren Jamir told Nagaland News Network that while he had heard about the resignations, he had not yet received the official resignation letters.

He described the issue as “solvable” and said the party would hold discussions to resolve the matter. Jamir added that the recent changes were part of a reorganization process and appealed to the members not to resign, stating that many of the senior Congress leaders who have served the party for years would be accommodated with suitable responsibilities within the organization.

Dimapur, July 21: Advisor for Railways & Airports, Government of Nagaland, and MLA, Pongshi Phom, on Monday inspected the proposed Modern Railway Station project and Dimapur Airport along with senior government officials and railway authorities to review the progress and discuss key issues related to both infrastructure projects.

A meeting was held at the Dimapur Railway Station following a circular issued by the Office of the Deputy Commissioner, Dimapur. The meeting was attended by officials from the Transport Department, Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), the Deputy Commissioner’s office, and other concerned departments to deliberate on matters relating to the proposed Modern Railway Station under Phase-I.

Speaking exclusively to Nagaland News Network (NNN) after the inspection, Advisor Pongshi Phom said that the discussion with railway authorities mainly focused on the challenges affecting the project. He stated that land encroachment continues to be one of the major concerns highlighted by the railway authorities.

On the issue of compensation for members of the Railway Land Owners Association, Phom said the compensation process has not yet been completed but assured that the concerned authorities are expected to address the matter soon.

Clarifying the terminology surrounding the project, Phom said that the proposed “World Class Railway Station” and the “Modern Railway Station” essentially refer to the same project.

The Advisor later inspected Dimapur Airport and chaired a meeting with officials to assess the status of the proposed airport expansion.

Speaking to Nagaland Newspaper Network after the meeting, Phom said the discussions were aimed at identifying the issues that need to be resolved before the expansion work can begin. He stated that the airport expansion will commence once the remaining land under the Assam Rifles Training Centre (ARTC) is vacated.

He further stressed that the issue requires mutual understanding among all stakeholders, adding that discussions with all parties concerned are essential and that no decision can be imposed by force.

The inspection forms part of the government’s ongoing efforts to expedite two of Nagaland’s key infrastructure projects, both of which are expected to significantly improve connectivity and boost economic development in the state.

Chumoukedima, July 17: The Chakhroma Public Organization (CPO) on Friday held a peace rally at New Medzhiphema Village over the ongoing land dispute involving Maova Village, accusing the Maova Village Council of adopting long-standing “avoidance tactics” to deny the rights of traditional landowners and alleging government inaction.

During the rally, themed “Protest against non-acknowledgement of traditional Landowners and the Government’s inaction,” the CPO released a public briefing claiming that official communications dating from 2010 to recent weeks demonstrate a pattern of obstruction and legal manoeuvring by the Maova Village Council.

The organisation alleged that the council had historically refused to acknowledge the rights of traditional landowners, citing a 2010 letter in which the council reportedly declined to pay land tax to Tsüüma Village. The CPO also raised allegations of attempts to suppress the rally, criminal charges against a youth organisation, administrative bias, and concerns over the historical militarisation of the area.

The organisation concluded that the rally was a peaceful and democratic protest against the continued non-recognition of traditional landowners and urged the government to take appropriate action to resolve the long-standing dispute.
