Dimapur Press Club was formed in the year 1999 in the month of December with just four journalist with a motive to uphold the freedom of press. And this year that is 2024 marks as the silver jubilee of the Dimapur Press Club; press club and media from Dimapur as well as from Kohima was seen attending the silver jubilee of the Dimapur Press Club at the Dimapur Government College, auditorium.

The WW2 peace rally just concluded at the World War 2 museum located at Kisama Heritage Village on 2nd December 2024. The Dimapur Naga Student’s Union organized a charity event called “Share the Joy” along with other tribal unions which was scheduled to be held on 15th of December 2024 at the state stadium. However, under this project Share the Joy, they initiated a kick off of their charity project today a the Dimapur Railway station.

Todays activity was all about donation food, clothes and grooming for the poor and needy people out there in and around the Dimapur railway station. The DNSU was seen trimming hair for the homeless people and not only that but also helping them shower and got them dressed in new clothes. The needy and homeless people were very much happy and delighted to receive such warmth from the people headed by the DNSU.

While talking with Michael Kath GS of DNSU, he said that the main motive and objective of this charity project “Share the Joy” was under the thought; “No one should go hungry this Christmas and no one should go cold this Christmas”. He said that today’s event was just a kick off for their main event which is scheduled to be held on the 15th of December at the state stadium where they will be inviting all the orphanages from Dimapur as well as Chumukedima district. He also gave out an open invitation to all, to come and be a part of the ‘Share the Joy’ charity event on the 15th at the state stadium. He also further extended his thankfulness to all the people who have helped in donating for the project, and said that it was a really good response from the people this time. The inaugural function of the much awaited Hornbill festival began on the 1st of December 2024. The celebration was the 25th edition of the hornbill festival celebrating its silver jubilee and all the 17th tribes of Nagaland was seen gathered at the arena of the Kisama Village in Kohima district.

The 25th edition hornbill festival inaugural program stated with the chief host that is the GoN along with host Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio as well as the festival host Minister of Tourism Temjen Imna Along as well as the tribal guest Medo the head GB of Kohima village. The first day of the Hornbill festival witness all the 17th tribes of Nagaland gathered at the arena as well as various dignitaries from different partner countries that is dignitaries and officials from Japan, Peru, Whales, USA and Bulgaria and a special guest AR Rahman.

The working women hostel which is located in the Northern Angami colony, which was inaugurated by the state Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio on 12th November 2022, for working women.

But even after its inauguration, it was seen that the hostel was not functioning and it was still un-used. Nagaland News Network had also done a follow up story in the month of January 2024, but it was seen that it is still non- functional. The building comes under the scheme of Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation and the projected costed 9.86 crores outlet, where even our state Govt was to pour in 10% of the project cost. But it was discovered that it was functioning as the girls hostel on the rent basis for the Northeast Christian University. Despite many opposition from the people, the building was constructed for the working women however it was still unused and was seen using it for other purposes.

Even the former Chairman, Northern Angami colony Kevise Sogotsu also expressed his thoughts and talked about how the building was constructed against the will of the people and how despite its construction, its still not functional and how its functioning for some other purpose instead of the main purpose which the building was constructed for.

We have all seen that the Government of Nagaland, CP Dimapur have issued a order on the 7th of December regarding the vehicular movement on odd, even basis starting from 10th December because of the heavy traffic in Dimapur, mainly because of the festive season and especially because of the ongoing construction of the Road Over Bridge(ROB).

Today, during the public survey in the Dimapur town area with regard to the plying of vehicles on the odd, even basis, it was seen that most of the public were following the orders and even the traffic congestion was also considerably reduced.

Movement of vehicles on the odd, even basis came into effect from today as per the order issued by the CP, Dimapur and while talking with the traffic police, they said that most of the public are following the order and it is doing great so far. However there are few people who are still not following the odd, even basis but they are just letting them off with a warning as it is the first day. But they wish and hope that from tomorrow all the public would follow the orders.

The DUCCF said that this was levied on the business establishment, the shop keepers in different areas as well where we couldn’t confirm which area but it was said to be levied on the shop keepers as well. And while questioning the DUCCF during the press conference on 27th November, on various taxations by the DMC has been living on to the people as well as the business community in recent times especially of the ULP election.

The DUCCF has said and assured that it will be tackled but added that, the right decision has to be taken by the respective Councils of their ward and further said that if they keep on working like this, taxing the people and the business community then the confidence of the people will be lost on the councilor.

In regard to the DUCCF they are at authority to speak for Dimapur Urban Areas and they said that with the study they have done and with responsibility they have been given, they have seen no positive outcome of NLTP Act in Dimapur.

They added that, they are hoping that the Government take strong and firm stand on the NLTP Act and hope for the partial lifting of the Act in Dimapur.

The Dimapur Urban Council Chairman Federation or the DUCCF, held a press conference at the Duncan Basti Community hall on 27th November, 2024. The DUCCF before the press conference had a meeting and now they brought a many issues to the media regarding the Dimapur area/town or the commercial hub.

The issues included the Midland colony council issue where the GMS has come under a scandal right now, where dispensary has been set up there at the institution and many other issues were discussed as well. It also included the Residential sanitation tax or the RSF by the DMC, the NH-36 which has been coming under the scanner and many controversy involved because of the non completion of the said highway, another issues included the NLTP Act where the DUCCF has been in the forefront of it and another issue is the development in the urban areas as well. Another discussion that came about with the media was the Anti-defection Law for municipal elections which the cabinet had taken a decision on 11th July 2024.

The press conference by DUCCF took up many issues pertaining to the commercial hub of Dimapur. The representative, the members of the DUCCF represented 97 colonies of 23 wards in the Urban area of Dimapur town. They also said and clarified that the issue of the running of the dispensary in GMS is now upto the colony council chairmans to come together and solve the matter peacefully and with the consent department.
