NSF, NPMHR INITIATE BURIAL PREPARATIONS FOR NAGA ANCESTRAL REMAINS

Kohima, November 8: Preparatory work for the burial of Naga ancestral remains being repatriated from the Pitt Rivers Museum, University of Oxford, United Kingdom, commenced at Naga Solidarity Park, Kohima, on Friday, November 7, with a prayer service marking the beginning of site clearance and ground preparation.

Speaking exclusively to NNN, the President of the Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) said that 39 ancestral remains are yet to be brought back and laid to rest in their homeland. He informed that a meeting involving NSF, Naga People’s Movement for Human Rights (NPMHR), Forum for Naga Reconciliation (FNR), Kohima Village Council and other Naga organisations and leaders was held on October 19 to discuss the repatriation process and preservation of Naga ancestral heritage.

Following consultations, the Naga Solidarity Park Management Committee allocated a designated site within the Park for the burial, with NSF and NPMHR extending their cooperation towards the initiative. The move is being seen as a significant step towards reconnecting the Naga people with their history, identity and ancestral roots, while promoting healing, reconciliation and unity.
