ANOTHER RRINGWELL DEATH REPORTED IN DIMAPUR DUE TO SUFFOCATION; THIRD FATALITY IN DAYS

Dimapur, October 9: Another ringwell related death was reported in Dimapur on Friday after the body of a 35 year old man, identified as Deep, was retrieved from a ringwell at Darogapathar, 3rd Mile, opposite ARTC.

According to a report from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Dimapur, the incident was reported at around 11 am on October 9. The deceased was suspected to have died due to suffocation inside the ringwell. Sources informed that another person went down the well to help the deceased but due to low levels of oxygen, he couldn’t help him.

The incident comes just days after two persons, identified died while cleaning a deep ringwell at Oriental Colony in Dimapur on October 6. Their deaths were suspected to have been caused by methane gas exposure and reduced oxygen levels inside the well.

The latest incident raises fresh concerns over the dangers associated with entering deep, poorly ventilated ringwells, where oxygen levels may be dangerously low and toxic gases may accumulate.
With the latest death, Dimapur has reported three ringwell related fatalities within a matter of days.

The suspected cause of Deep’s death has not been independently confirmed, and further details regarding the circumstances of the incident were not immediately available.
The repeated incidents highlight the need for extreme caution when undertaking ringwell cleaning or maintenance, particularly in deep and confined spaces where suffocation can occur.
