DIMAPUR, OCTOBER 7: A 50-year-old man was reportedly crushed to death by a cement mixer dumper at Netaji Colony, near the railway station in Dimapur, at around 4:40 PM today.
According to an eyewitness, the deceased was walking along the roadside with his child when the child suddenly ran ahead. The father reportedly tried to catch up with the child but slipped on the cement slabs covering the roadside drainage and fell underneath the rear tyre of the cement mixer dumper that was travelling behind them. He was subsequently crushed under the vehicle and died on the spot.
The eyewitness said that the driver and handyman of the dumper were initially unaware that the man had fallen underneath the vehicle. It was only after the eyewitness raised an alarm and shouted that someone had been hit that the two reportedly stopped and became aware of the incident. The eyewitness then instructed the driver to reverse the vehicle slightly to retrieve the body from beneath the tyre.
However, after reversing the dumper, the driver and handyman reportedly fled from the scene and are said to be absconding. Police were subsequently informed, following which personnel arrived at the scene along with an ambulance. The deceased’s body was taken away for further investigation, while the cement mixer dumper was taken to West Police Station, Dimapur, for further investigation.
