


Kohima, August 17: Nagaland observed the 80th Independence Day with the State-level celebration held at the Nagaland Civil Secretariat Plaza, Kohima, with Chief Minister leading the programme.
The celebration featured the hoisting of the National Flag, National Anthem, inspection of the parade and an Independence Day address by the Chief Minister. Contingents from the Assam Rifles, CRPF, BSF, Nagaland Police, Home Guards, Civil Defence, SDRF, NCC and ex-servicemen participated in the parade.
In his address, the Chief Minister reiterated the State Government’s commitment to an early and honourable solution to the Naga Political Issue, while stressing inclusive development, improved infrastructure, education, healthcare, employment and greater opportunities for the youth. He also highlighted initiatives including the proposed IIT and AIIMS, Nagaki City, improved connectivity, sports infrastructure and skill-development programmes, besides reaffirming support for the aspirations of Eastern Nagaland.
Several government initiatives and projects were also launched and inaugurated, including the Nagaland Integrated Information System (NIIS), Education Management Information System and a 10-MW solar power plant at Hovukhu.
The celebrations also featured cultural performances representing Nagaland’s diverse tribal traditions, charitable visits to welfare institutions and an evening programme comprising a football exhibition match, band displays, prize distribution and the Beating of Retreat.
The Chief Minister called for unity and collective efforts towards building a peaceful, self-reliant and prosperous Nagaland.
