Kohima, July 22: The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) has said that landslides and flash floods triggered by extreme rainfall on July 19 and 20 have affected almost all districts of Nagaland, impacting around 12,865 families
Mon district was among the worst-hit, with 10 deaths reported — nine due to a landslide and one in a flash flood. Longleng, Tuensang, Kiphire, Shamator and Mokokchung also suffered extensive damage.
NSDMA Joint CEO Johnny Ruangmei said heavy rainfall, including 130 mm in Mon and 126 mm in Mokokchung within a short period, caused widespread destruction. Road connectivity, power supply and telecom services remain severely disrupted, hampering rescue and relief operations.
Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio sanctioned ₹70 lakh as relief assistance for Mon district, along with an additional ₹10 lakh for community volunteers. NSDMA is also coordinating assistance for stranded students and strengthening disaster preparedness through early warning systems and the Safer Nagaland App.
