DIGITAL BIRTH, DEATH REGISTRATION MANDATORY; NO GOING BACK TO PAPER, SAYS ECONOMICS & STATISTICS DIRECTOR

Kohima, July 17: The Director of Economics & Statistics, Nagaland, Neidilhou Keditsu, has said that birth and death registration in the state has transitioned to a fully digital system, with online registration becoming mandatory from 2025 under the Civil Registration System (CRS), following its rollout in 2022.

Speaking to NNN on Thursday, Keditsu said digital birth certificates are now essential for accessing services such as Aadhaar enrolment and other government-issued identity documents. He said the move aims to improve efficiency, ensure secure record-keeping, and enable seamless verification across government departments.

The department has urged citizens to ensure timely online registration of births and deaths, as digital certificates are becoming increasingly important for accessing various government services and benefits.
