Dimapur, July 4: A viral video showing sparks and an apparent electric leakage from the fencing surrounding a transformer in Dimapur’s Supermarket area has raised public safety concerns, prompting the Power Department to inspect the site.
An eyewitness told Nagaland News Network (NNN) that the incident occurred on Friday afternoon and suspected overgrown vegetation around the transformer compound may have contributed to the leakage. He also urged the authorities to carry out regular maintenance to prevent similar incidents.
Responding to the incident, the Power Department said inspections conducted on Friday night and Saturday morning found no major fault with the transformer. Officials stated the sparks were likely caused by an old streetlight pole and an unused neutral wire, which will be removed by Monday. The department has assured the public that there is no safety risk and has appealed to residents to report any suspected electrical faults for prompt action.
