NAGALAND UNVEILS VB-G RAM G TO EMPOWER VILLAGES & BOOST LIVELIHOODS

Kohima, July 2: The Government of Nagaland on Wednesday officially launched the Viksit Bharat–Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) (VB-G RAM G), a new rural development initiative aimed at strengthening livelihoods, building resilient villages, and promoting sustainable economic growth across the State.

The State launch, organised by the Rural Development Department, was chaired by Deputy Director Jenny Kath. Commissioner & Secretary, Rural Development, Thavaseelan K., IAS, described the mission as a significant milestone under the vision of Viksit Bharat, noting that it replaces the 2005 MGNREGA framework with a stronger focus on digital governance, evidence-based planning, and community participation.

Highlighting Nagaland’s potential in agriculture, horticulture, handicrafts, handloom, bamboo, and other rural enterprises, he stressed the need to combine traditional knowledge with technology, innovation, and stronger market linkages. He also outlined the mission’s four key focus areas—water security, core rural infrastructure, livelihood infrastructure, and climate resilience—and urged all stakeholders to work together for its successful implementation.

Deputy Director John Wesley Magh presented an overview of the VB-G RAM G Scheme and the Viksit Gram Panchayat Plan (VGPP). The programme also featured a live broadcast of the National Launch Event and concluded with Director M. Mongna Konyak calling for collective efforts to ensure the mission’s success across Nagaland.
