FROM LAND COMPENSATION TO DELAY IN HIGHWAY MAINTENANCE, DY CM ZELIANG TAKES STOCK

DIMAPUR : CM TR Zeliang takes a tour across six Districts for inspecting National Highway construction.

Deputy Chief Minister of Nagaland also in charge of National Highways TR Zeliang did an extensive tour across six districts covering approximately 750km. The reason why he did this tour is to inspect and review about the construction works on especially two National Highways that is, National Highway 702a and National Highway 202. He took the trip in just 4 days and he met with tribal leaders Village Council, Chairman ,District Administrators. He went along with his team consisting of Chief Engineers, top officials of the department and many other officials as well. Trip started from Kohima went across to Phek then he went to Kiphire , Shamator, Tuensang and ended his journey at Mokokchung. At the Press conference on 15th November 2024 he invited all the media in Dimapur to give his overview of his tour and what he has observed with the progress of these two highways, during those 4 days. He then mentioned that he was not satisfied with the work that was going on on National Highway 702a and the maintenance especially. During his journey he was tweeting continuously as well regarding the maintenance work. He also directed the Chief Engineers that they should now take cognizance of the situation and sent notification to the contractors and if failing to and not being able to maintain the road and start constructing and maintenance of the road then they will be blacklisted.
Another big issue that he said regarding the construction of structures across certain villages. He revealed that the land owners and the owner of these structures will not be compensated. If the structures have been there before more than 10 years ago will only be compensated and the new structures will be demolished by the District Administrators. Another big project is the National Highway 202 in Meluri which covers 300 km. The deputy chief minister revealed that it is worth 3,119 crores of road construction that will happen in the state of Nagaland. He has appealed to the people to co-operate with the government and the implementing agency so that the National Highways can be constructed at the earliest.
