OVER 38000 DELETED, UNTRACED VOTERS ACROSS 5 DISTRICTS: NPCC

Kohima, October 27: NPCC Flags Over 38,000 Deleted or Untraced Voters Across Five Nagaland Districts

The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) has raised concerns over alleged voter-list irregularities, claiming that more than 38,000 voters have been deleted or remain untraced across five districts of Nagaland.

Addressing a press conference organised by the NPCC Communication Department at Congress Bhavan, Kohima, on Tuesday, Pranav Shagotra, AICC Observer, shared district-wise figures as part of the Congress campaign, “Vote Bachao, Desh Bachao – Go Gyanu Go,” launched under the directive of the All India Congress Committee (AICC).

According to Shagotra, the figures from the voter lists examined by the party showed 7,900 untraced voters in Mokokchung, 11,530 deleted or untraced voters in Zunheboto, 6,547 in Wokha, 3,225 in Longleng and 9,032 in Tuensang. The figures amount to a combined 38,234 deleted or untraced voters across the five districts. Shagotra said the issue was particularly concerning in states where election victories can be determined by narrow margins.

He alleged that voter-list irregularities were taking place across the country and accused the Election Commission of failing to ensure transparency in the electoral process. He also alleged that names of Congress supporters and supporters of other political parties had been removed from voter lists. These allegations were made by the Congress representative and were not independently verified at the press conference.

Shagotra referred to Rahul Gandhi’s earlier campaign highlighting alleged discrepancies in electoral rolls, including duplicate registrations and cases in which individuals recorded as deceased were reportedly found to be alive. He said the Congress had demanded electronic copies of voter lists to facilitate a more detailed examination of the data.He further stated that, following nationwide protests and legal proceedings, electronic voter lists were ordered to be provided, describing the development as a step towards safeguarding democracy.

As part of the campaign, Shagotra said approximately 208 observers had reportedly been assigned to different areas across the country to examine deleted and untraced voter entries. He said he had been assigned to oversee Mokokchung, Zunheboto, Wokha, Longleng and Tuensang districts and would submit a report to the party’s high command after completing the programme.

The AICC observer also announced that a rally under the “Vote Bachao, Desh Bachao” campaign would be held at Ramlila Maidan in New Delhi on November 1, with Rahul Gandhi, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and other senior party leaders expected to address the gathering.Calling upon the media to highlight the issue, Shagotra said a free and fair electoral process was essential to protecting democratic values.

He also stressed the need to preserve India’s diversity and unity, urging people to support the Congress campaign. The NPCC press conference was part of the party’s efforts to mobilise public support for the November 1 rally and examine alleged discrepancies in voter lists across Nagaland.
