Niuland, October 23: Minister Jacob Zhimomi has said that any decision on whether to lift the Nagaland Liquor Total Prohibition (NLTP) Act, 1989, should be taken collectively by the Naga people after consultations with all stakeholders.
Speaking to the media on Friday, Zhimomi said a meeting involving all stakeholders should be convened to discuss the matter before arriving at a decision. Referring to his statement during the Nagaland State Transport (NST) flag-off programme in Niuland district on Wednesday, he said he wished for Niuland to serve as an example by remaining an alcohol-free district.
However, he maintained that the decision on lifting the NLTP Act would ultimately depend on the collective deliberations of the people and individual choices. On the GIS representation submitted to Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, Zhimomi said the matter had already been discussed and had also been raised in the Nagaland Legislative Assembly. He pointed out that certain parts of Nagaland were being shown within Assam’s territory on the maps, stressing the need for rectification. He added that further discussions were necessary to address the issue.
