New Delhi, October 9 (NNN): A Special National Investigation Agency (NIA) Court in New Delhi has sentenced Thai national and arms smuggler Willy Naruenartwanich to six years’ imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹5 lakh in connection with an international arms procurement conspiracy involving the NSCN (IM).
The sentence was pronounced on October 7 by the Special Exclusive Court-03 at Rouse Avenue District Courts, following his conviction on September 24 under Sections 120B and 122 of the Indian Penal Code and Section 18 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
According to the NIA, Naruenartwanich acted as a key intermediary in a conspiracy to procure arms and ammunition from foreign sources in coordination with NSCN (IM) chief arms procurer Anthony Shimray. The proposed procurement and transshipment arrangement was valued at approximately US$1.2 million.
The NIA registered the case on January 13, 2010, following an order from the Ministry of Home Affairs.
