Kohima, September 2: The Nagaland Legislative Assembly on Tuesday withdrew the earlier Frontier Nagaland Territorial Authority (FNTA) Bill, 2026, and introduced a revised version of the legislation during the opening day of the ninth session of the 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly. The earlier Bill had been introduced during the eighth session on March 26 but was deferred amid concerns over the proposed powers and functions of the authority.
Deputy Chief Minister Yanthungo Patton moved the motion for withdrawal, which was approved by the House through a voice vote. He subsequently introduced the revised FNTA Bill, 2026. The new Bill has been listed for consideration and passing on September 3, while Speaker Sharingain Longkumer directed members to submit any amendments or clarifications by 2 pm on Wednesday.
The Assembly also introduced five other government Bills, including two amendments to the Nagaland GST Act, an amendment to the Town & Country Planning Act, the Nagaland Right to Public Services Bill, 2026, and the Nagaland Paramedical Council (Repeal) Bill, 2026. All six Bills are scheduled to be taken up for consideration and passing on September 3.
