The Deputy Commissioner of Tuensang and Chairperson of the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Lithrongla, has said that continuous heavy rainfall has triggered landslides and mudslides across the district, severely affecting normal life.
Speaking over the phone on 4th August, the DC said National Highway-202 has been cut off, preventing the movement of heavy vehicles and disrupting connectivity to Shamator and Noklak districts.
She informed that 63 families have been affected, while three government offices, including the Post Office and offices in the IOC area, have been evacuated as a precautionary measure due to the threat posed by landslides.
The DDMA has advised the public to avoid unnecessary travel, especially on landslide-prone and blocked roads, and urged residents to remain indoors as much as possible until the weather improves.
The Deputy Commissioner also expressed gratitude to the Chief Minister and the Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) for their support and assistance in responding to the situation.
