In an advisory drafted on 28th October 2024 by the commissioner of police, Dimapur cautions the citizens regarding the ban of use of the fire crackers. He stated that the bursting of the firecrackers is not only hazardous to our environment but also can cause significant stress, fear and other health related issues to the human as well as to the animals due to its loud explosive and toxic gases.
But during festive season like Diwali, Christmas, new year and other festivals, CP in his advisory said that only within a specific timeframe that is on Diwali from 8pm to 10pm and on Christmas and New year from 11:55 to 12:30am only it will be allowed. The commissioner of police also notified that only those shop keepers who have a license will only be allowed to sell the firecrackers, he also added that only reduced emission firecrackers, Safe Water and Air Sprinklers(SWAS) and those firecrackers approved by the Petroleum and Explosive Safety Organization(PESO) will be allowed during the permitted hours only.
However, the commissioner of police DMP stated that no bursting of firecrackers would be allowed within 100 meters away from the silence zone such as the hospital, nursing homes, primary and district health-care centers, educational institutions, courts or any other religious areas. He further added that fire crackers generating loud noise will be strictly prohibited and that if anyone found violating the order will be punished as per the law.
